Cyprian Odiatu Duaka Ekwensi is geboren op 26 september 1921 in Minna Nigeria. Hij schreef zowel romans, verhalen als kinderboeken. Naast schrijver was hij apotheker en radiomaker. Cyprian Ekwensi overleed op 4 november 2007 in de Niger Foundation in Enugu, Nigeria aan de gevolgen van een onbekende aandoening. Hij werd 86 jaar oud.
