Alan Parks is geboren in 1963 in Schotland. Voordat hij schrijver werd was hij was Creative Director van London Records en Warner Music, hier deed hij de markering en het het mangement voor All Saints, New Order, The Streets, Gnarls Barkley en Cee Lo Green.
De eerste misdaadroman van Alan Parks, Bloody January, verscheen in 2017. Zijn thrillers worden gerekend tot het zogenaamde Tartan Noir genre die kenmerkend is voor Schotse misdaadauteurs.
