Naast politiek denker en diplomaat was hij ook uitvinder. Hij bedacht onder meer bifocale brillenglazen en de bliksemafleider. Hij wees als eerste op het bestaan van golfstromen en ontwikkelde een eigen theorie over elektriciteit. Hij overleed op 17 april 1790 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, waar hij ook begraven is, en werd 84 jaar oud.

Zoughbie has been appointed to positions at Georgetown University, Stanford University, Harvard University, University of Bologna, University College Dublin, University of Athens, and Campus Bio Medico University of Rome.
