E.C.R. Lorac is the pseudonym of Edith Caroline Rivett who was born 
on 6 May 1894 in Hendon, Middlesex, England. She is one of the writers of the golden age of detective fiction and wrote numirous detective novels. She publishe her first crime novel The Murder on the Burrows in 1931. Most of her nvels are about Chief Inspector MacDonald van Scotland Yard. About ten of them are reissued as British Library Crime Classic. She died on 2 July 1958 in the age of 64 at the Caton Green Nursing Home, in Caton-with-Littledale, near Lancaster.
