Flaptekst van het boek over de band Oasis

A hilarious unofficial tribute to the most opinionated and entertainingly cantankerous band in rock and roll history.

Hello and listen up. In 1994, with the shock of the lightning that was Oasis’s force-of-nature debut album, the British band’s cigarettes-and-alcohol-fueled founding brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher went supernova all around the world. Most artists would have responded to this fame by opting to cast no shadow, saying less in public, or at least being more cautious when they did, reluctant to add to the weight of the world on their shoulders. Not Liam and Noel, who did a strange thing. As if born on a different cloud, they refused to be quiet ones and acquiesce to the typical masterplan for celebrity.

For the next thirty years, they never stopped opening their big mouths and shouting out loud their opinions on everything underneath the sky. Whether as stormy as a cloudburst, as playful as a shakermaker, as wise as a headshrinker in a rockin’ chair, as uncouth as a girl in a dirty shirt with mucky fingers, or as lewd as fuckin’ in the bushes, their heathen chemistry was always electric—some might say as addictive as morning glory. Oasis Talking Shite celebrates these songbirds’ refreshing candor, constructing a magic pie of memorable quotes and photographs into a wall of wonder. Here they go let it out on nearly every topic imaginable, including religion, politics, technology, sports, aging, America, aliens, the Big Bang Theory, open-toed shoes, Christmas, SpongeBob SquarePants, other bands, and of course their all-time favorite subject: each other.

Timed to the long-awaited Oasis reunion tour in summer 2025, in which they are keeping the dream alive despite just getting older, this book will help you stop crying your eyes out if you didn’t get tickets. In fact, it’s an eyeball tickler. D’you know what I mean? It’s something to read while waiting for the rapture. It won’t let you down and gives you something about which to talk tonight or on a Sunday morning call—an opportunity to look back in appreciation (not anger) as well as a reminder of why Liam and Noel will never slide away and definitely (not maybe) live forever as two of the most supersonic rock ‘n’ roll stars to ever turn up the sun. So put yer money where yer mouth is, bring it on down to the bookstore register, and bag it up.

Not the Gallagher Brothers are not the Gallagher brothers (in case there was still any confusion), but they do share a love of rock ‘n’ roll, parkas, crisps, Man City, and talking shite.

Melissa Locker And After All review en recensie

  • “This book shines a light on the fans who helped make (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now global hits and two of the most iconic albums ever made. Oasis had the songs and the fans helped make them huge. Great to have a different perspective on the story of Oasis.” (Nick Brine, recording engineer of What’s the Story, Morning Glory?)
  • “And After All is a wonderfully original way to connect to the history of Oasis: from the viewpoint of Oasis fans. Reading about the fans’ commitment to getting to see the band live or buying memorabilia feels like the best kind of celebration of the legendary band. These are stories of lifelong dedication and love.” (Fred Armisen)

Flaptekst van het boek over de band Oasis van Melissa Locker

This oral history documents the story of Oasis as told by the fans who were there. Discover never-before-seen perspectives charting the rise, fall, and rise again of Liam and Noel Gallagher and the British rock band whose music defined a generation.

A few years after Definitely Maybe topped the charts, with “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” established as one of the UK’s bestselling albums of all time, and Oasis the reigning rulers of British rock, Noel Gallagher did the unthinkable: he broke up the band. After a string of public spats, Noel announced that he “simply could not go on working” with his brother Liam “a day longer.”

Fifteen years later, the brothers announced a truce. The news sent fans into a frenzy, ticket prices soared, and Definitely Maybe was back on the top of the charts. That’s because for a generation of music lovers around the world, Oasis really mattered. Their combination of earthy lyrics, brazen attitude, and earworm-worthy tunes set against a backdrop of working-class experience made them relatable, memorable, and important.

And After All gives the mic to the fans that launched Oasis to stratospheric fame and takes a deep dive into the band’s formation, history, and reunion. Through the lens of the fans who were there for all the songs, feuds, and incredible shows, journalist Melissa Locker examines the path Oasis charted as they cemented their place in modern rock history.

Voices in this fan history include the band’s earliest PR person, superfan memorabilia collectors, musicians who toured with Oasis in the early days, concertgoers from some of the band’s most legendary performances, official Fan Club leadership, couples who met because of the band, the DJ who inspired Noel to dare Liam to call him and may have kick-started the reunion, among many others. Their personal stories about the music, the concerts, and the band come together in a mosaic that depicts Oasis’s enduring legacy.

Melissa Locker is a writer, producer, podcaster, and on-air personality. Her music reporting has appeared in The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Time, The Believer, Elle, Vogue, Pitchfork, Stereogum, and beloved alt-weeklies including The Village Voice, the Washington DC City Paper, The Stranger, and the Portland Mercury. She has worked at New York’s public radio station, WNYC, for the television show Portlandia, appeared in documentaries about Ace of Base and The Replacements, and worked at the legendary indie label Kill Rock Stars. Her music podcast company Nevermind Media tells music stories, including an oral history of The Blues Brothers and The True Story of the Fake Zombies. In addition to putting words on the page, she was an on-air culture reporter for the national public radio show The Takeaway.
