Óskar Guðmundsson is in 1965 geboren in Reykjavik, de hoofdstad van IJsland. Alhoewel hij al sinds zijn jeugd schrijft, publiceerde hij zijn eerste boek, de spannende roman Hilma, pas in 2015. Het boek werd goed ontvangen in zijn geboorteland IJsland. In 2018 verscheen zijn tweede boek dat in Engelse vertaling verscheen met als titel The Commantments. Zijn nieuwste thriller, The Dancer, waarover je hier uitgebreide informatie kunt lezen, verschijnt begin 2024 in Engelse vertaling. Geen van zijn boeken zijn tot nu toe in Nederlandse vertaling verkrijgbaar. Naast schrijver is Óskar Guðmundsson actief als beelden kunstenaar.
