Nationaal Park Lauwersmeer is een uniek natuurgebied op de grens van Fryslân en Groningen. Na de afsluiting van de Lauwerszee in 1969 heeft het gebied zich ontwikkeld van een zout getijdengebied tot een zoetwaternatuurgebied met een veelheid aan habitats en vogels. In de jaren tachtig werd ze nog lacherig ontvangen: ‘Kijk, daar heb je Steur, die gaat het ook proberen.’ Een vrouw, tussen de mannen, met cowboylaarzen en fonkelende ogen. Maar Patricia Steur (1948) wist door te dringen waar anderen buiten bleven. Ze tourde met rocksterren, hielp mee aan de acceptatie van tattoos, fotografeerde glamour én inheemse volkeren. Van verlegen meisje groeide ze uit tot rolmodel.

Een hoogtepunt was haar werk in Nieuw-Zeeland, waar een Maori-stam zich voor haar openstelde. De tentoonstelling in het Scheepvaartmuseum trok 25.000 bezoekers en gaf haar internationale erkenning. Toch bleef haar missie onveranderd: mensen en verhalen zichtbaar maken die anders onopgemerkt zouden blijven.

Na meer dan veertig jaar, tien boeken en talloze exposities deelt Patricia herinneringen, visie en levenslessen. Met haar motto ‘Bad things happen for a good reason’ inspireert ze nog steeds.

Patricia Steur is geboren in 1948. Ze is een internationaal gelauwerd fotograaf. Ze werkte voor toonaangevende tijdschriften en artiesten, publiceerde tien boeken en exposeerde wereldwijd.

Loes Haverkort is geboren op 19 januari 1981 in Almelo. Ze is actrice, muzikant en fotograaf. Ze had de hoofdrol in series als Moedermaffia (Videoland) en De Jacht, waarvoor ze een Gouden Kalf-nominatie ontving. Ze speelde de eerste vrouwelijke hoofdrol in de musical Soldaat van Oranje. Dit jaar was ze te zien in een van de hoofdrollen in de film iHostage, die een wereldwijde hit werd op Netflix. In 2023 was ze de winnaar bij het tv-programma Het perfecte plaatje.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the 230,000 men and women working on Ukraine’s railways have played a vital role in the country’s defense and daily survival. Stretching nearly 25,000 kilometres, the railway network has been a frequent target of Russian attacks. More than 1,100 railway workers have been injured, and over 790 have lost their lives. Yet despite the danger, a deep sense of duty—and the will to survive—drives these workers, supported by their families, to keep the trains running.

Dutch photographer Jelle Krings has been documenting the lives of these railway workers and their loved ones since the start of the invasion. His work paints a powerful and moving portrait of resilience, courage, and humanity.

Jelle Krings is an independent Dutch photographer working for media outlets such as CNN, The Guardian, and de Volkskrant. His work has received numerous awards, including a Silver Camera in 2021, 2023, and 2024. He has also won several international awards for Iron People, including the prestigious Pictures of the Year International multiple times.

Jelle Krings is een onafhankelijke Nederlandse fotograaf die werkt voor media als CNN, The Guardian en de Volkskrant. Zijn werk werd meermaals bekroond, onder meer met een Zilveren Camera in 2021, 2023 en 2024. Whilst London’s Heathrow Airport has been the hub for the main flag-carrying airlines flying to major cities around the world, Gatwick has officially been London’s second airport since it was opened in 1958. If you wanted a package holiday throughout the ‘60s and 70s, you would often fly on charter airlines that operated a variety of aircraft types into Gatwick to destinations worldwide.

For the enthusiast, this made spectator visits more interesting and Gatwick catered well for the plane spotter with viewing piers that were very close overlooking the parked airliners. The variety of aircraft types to be seen ranged from light aircraft, executive types, propeller and jet airliners and even military transports. This full-colour book charts the airport’s history through its aircraft from the early days up to date.

Adrian M. Balch is an aviation photographer, journalist and author, contributing articles and photographs since the mid-1960s. He served in RAF Air Traffic Control during 1971-93 and travelled extensively, never without his cameras, gathering material for his archive library. He has flown with the Red Arrows and undertaken many other photographic sorties to accompany articles published in leading aviation periodicals worldwide.
