Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o is geboren op 5 januari 1938 in Kamiriithu, Kenia. hij wordt beschouwd als een van Afrika’s belangrijkste denkers en schrijvers. In zijn werk stelde hij kolonialisme en identiteit centraal. Op 28 mei 2025 overleed hij, 87 jaar oud, in Buford, Georgia in de Verenigde Staten.

In the village of Thabai, the men and women who live there have been transformed irrevocably by the uprising. Kihika, legendary rebel leader, was fatally betrayed to the whiteman. Gikonyo’s marriage to the beautiful Mumbi was destroyed when he was imprisoned, while her life has been shattered in other ways. Ngugi wa Thiong’o (5 januari 1938, Kamiriithu, Kenia) is one of the Ngugi Wa Thiong'o A Grain of Wheat novel from 1967 first editionleading writers and scholars at work in the world today. His books include the novels Petals of Blood, for which he was imprisoned by the Kenyan government in 1977, A Grain of Wheat and Wizard of the Crow; the memoirs, Dreams in a Time of War, In the House of the Interpreter and Birth of a Dream Weaver; and the essays, Decolonizing the Mind, Something Torn and New and Globalectics. Recipient of many honours, among them ten honorary doctorates, he is currently Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine.
