bestseller. Daarnaast zijn ook zijn verhalenbundel Bevrijdingsdag en de roman Een duik in de vijver in de regen in de afgelopen jaren in Nederlandse vertaling uitgegeven. Saunders geeft les aan de prestigieuze opleiding Creative Writing van Syracuse University.

She was the recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts awards, a 1971 fellowship at the Broad Loaf Writers’ Conference and a 1977 residency at Yaddo. She was born and lived in New York City. On 26 June 2013 she died at the age of 77.

Joseph Heller was born on 1 May 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. He served as a bombardier in the Second World War and then attended Joseph Heller Catch-22 first edition 1961New York University and Columbia University and then Oxford, the last on a Fullbright scholarship. He then taught for two years at Pennsylvania State University, before returning to New York, where he began a successful career in the advertising departments of Time, Look and McCall’s magazines. It was during this time that he had the idea for Catch-22. Working on the novel in spare moments and evenings at home, it took him eight years to complete and was first published in 1961. His second novel, Something Happened was published in 1974, Good As Gold in 1979 and Closing Time in 1994. He is also the author of the play We Bombed in New Haven. He died 12 December 1999 in at the age of 76 in East Hampton, New York.

Sonia kent onvoorwaardelijke liefde voor de paarden die zij traint en werkt tegelijk in een wereld die in een paardenlijf slechts economische waarde ziet.

Met verbluffende precisie schetst Scanlan in korte vignetten – met de kracht van dynamiet – welke alledaagse en uitzonderlijke gebeurtenissen een mensenleven vormen. De keuzes die Scanlan daarin maakt, wat ze weglaat en wat ze vertelt, tonen haar weergaloze meesterschap. Het boek kon op overweldigend veel lof rekenen in Engeland en de vs , en is door zowel The New Yorker als The Guardian uitgeroepen tot boek van het jaar.

Kathryn Scanlan (1980) woont in Los Angeles. Haar werk is verschenen in Granta en The Paris Review. Ze studeerde Engels en creative writing aan de Universiteit van Iowa en aan de kunstacademie in Chicago. Haar debuutroman aug 9-fog, een literaire bewerking van een gevonden dagboek, werd in 2019 gepubliceerd. In 2024 won ze de Gordon Burns Prijs met Kick the Latch.

After a seismic event leaves the world shattered, an unnamed narrator at the end of a mediocre acting career struggles to regain the ability to walk on ground that is in constant motion. When her alluring younger housemate, Tala, disappears, what had begun as an obsession grows into an impulse to kill, forcing the narrator to confront the meaning of the ruptures that have suddenly upended her life. The drive to find and eliminate Tala becomes an existential pursuit, leading back in time and out into a desolate, dust-covered city, where the narrator is targeted by charismatic “healing” ideologues with uncertain motives. Torn between a gnawing desire to reckon with the forces that have made her and an immediate need to find the stability to survive, she is forced to question familiar figurations of light, shadow, authenticity, resistance, and the limits of personal transformation in an alienated, alienating world.

Anna Moschovakis is a poet and translator whose most recent novel is Participation (2022, Coffee House Press). Other books include the novel Eleanor, or, The Rejection of the Progress of Love, and poetry books They, We Will Get Into Trouble for This and You and Three Others Are Approaching a Lake, winner of the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. She has also translated Albert Cossery’s The Jokers, Annie Ernaux’s The Possession, and various others. She is a member of the publishing collective Ugly Duckling Presse, and co-founder of Bushel Collective, an experimental mixed-use storefront space in Delhi, New York.
