De dood van een hypochonder is een tragikomische roman over de vraag wanneer je als kind recht hebt op de liefde van een ouder. Heb je als kind het recht grenzen te stellen aan de betekenis ‘onvoorwaardelijke ouderliefde’?

Mirjam Suzanne Liesker is geboren 1965. Ze studeerde in 2023 af aan de Schrijversvakschool. Docenten beschreven haar als een autodidact met een eigenzinnige, rauwe schrijfstijl, met humoristische observaties. Naast het schrijven van proza runt zij een kapsalon en knipt of scheert haar klanten het liefst ‘kort Amerikaans’ (opgeschoren in de nek, bovenop iets langer).

Katie Yee is a writer from Brooklyn. She has received fellowships from the Center for Fiction, the Asian American Writers’ Workshop, and Kundiman. Her work has appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books, No Tokens, The Believer, the Washington Square Review, Triangle House, Epiphany, and Literary Hub. By day, she works at the Brooklyn Museum. By night, she writes, usually under the watch of her judgmental rescue dog, Ollie.

Lydi Conklin has received a Stegner Fellowship, four Pushcart Prizes, a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer’s Award, a Creative Writing Fulbright in Poland, a grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation, work-study and tuition scholarships from Bread Loaf, and fellowships from MacDowell, Yaddo, Sewanee Writers Conference, Emory University, Hedgebrook, Djerassi, and elsewhere. Their fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, One Story, McSweeney’s, American Short Fiction, and VQR. They have drawn cartoons for The New Yorker and Narrative Magazine, and graphic fiction for The Believer, Lenny Letter, and the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago. They’ve served as the Helen Zell Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan and are now an Assistant Professor of Fiction at Vanderbilt University. Their story collection, Rainbow Rainbow, was longlisted for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Award and The Story Prize.

Nadat Mickeys vader haar moeder heeft verlaten, besluit ze hem te vergeten en dat gaat lang prima. Vooruit, ze drinkt, maar ze zou heus kunnen stoppen. Dan hoort ze dat haar vader is overleden en dat ze een erfenis krijgt. Op één voorwaarde: dat ze zeven therapiesessies volgt. Arlo heeft meer issues dan de meesten van haar cliënten. Ze is therapeut, maar dat wil niet zeggen dat ze om kan gaan met haar vaders dood. En dan heeft hij ook nog eens zijn geld nagelaten aan een dochter van wie niemand ooit gehoord heeft. Arlo is woest – en vastbesloten erachter te komen wie haar erfenis heeft ingepikt.
