Frank Baker’s avian apocalypse novel went largely unnoticed when first published, but after the release of Alfred Hitchcock’s film in 1963, Baker threatened to sue, believing the director had borrowed from his book. The text of this definitive edition of Baker’s classic is taken from his own copy of the book, in which he made hundreds of changes and corrections, never published until now. This edition also features an introduction by Hitchcock scholar Ken Mogg.

Frank Baker was born on 22 May 1908 in Hornsey, london. He was British writer of novels and short stories. His books that stand out, even today,  are the novels The Birds (1936) and Miss Hargreaves (1940) and his memoir, I Follow But Myself (1968). Frank Baker died on 6 November 1983 in Porthleven, Cornwall of cancer at the age of 75.

Margaret Atwood was born on 18 November 1939 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She is the author of more than fifty books The Handmaid's Tale Margaret Atwoord Novel from 1985 First Editionof fiction, poetry and critical essays. Her novels include Cat’s Eye, The Robber Bride, Alias Grace, The Blind Assassin and the MaddAdam trilogy. Her 1985 classic The Handmaid’s Tale was followed in 2019 by a sequel, The Testaments, which was a global number one bestseller and shared the Booker Prize in that year. On the November 4 in 2025 het book Book of Lives, A Memoir of Sorts wil be published.

Atwood is a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour, and has won numerous awards including the Arthur C. Clarke Award for Imagination in Service to Society, the Franz Kafka Prize, the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, the PEN USA Lifetime Achievement Award and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Paul Bradley Carr is on 7 December 1979 in Dunfermline, Scotland. He is a journalist and author. He has written three memoirs about his adventures in and around Silicon Valley. He was the Silicon Valley columnist for The Guardian, senior editor at TechCrunch, cofounder of PandoDaily, and founder and editor-in-chief of the infamous NSFWCORP in Las Vegas. His writing has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, HuffPost, National Geographic, and much more. He lives in Palm Springs with his family and is the co-owner of The Best Bookstore in Palm Springs.

Eve Smith writes speculative fiction, mainly about the things that scare her. Longlisted for the Not the Booker Prize and described by Waterstones as “an exciting new voice in crime fiction”, Eve’s debut novel The Waiting Rooms, set in the aftermath of an antibiotic resistance crisis, was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize First Novel Award and was selected as a Book of the Month by Eric Brown in The Guardian who compared her writing to Michael Crichton’s. The critically acclaimed Off Target was published in 2022, with One out in 2023. Eve’s previous job as COO of an environmental charity took her to research projects across Asia, Africa and the Americas, and she has an ongoing passion for wild creatures, wild science and far-flung places. When she’s not writing she’s racing across fields after her dog, trying to organise herself and her family, or off exploring somewhere new.

Martin “Sense of Wonder” Fellowship. Her short fiction has been published in Black Warrior Review, Joyland and Tor.com, nominated for a Pushcart and reprinted in the 2019 Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy.
