Angela Carter was born on 7 Mai 1940 in Eastbourne, England,. She lived in Japan, the United States and Australia. Her first novel, Shadow Dance, was published in 1965. Her next book, The Magic Toyshop, won the John Llewllyn Rhys Prize and the next, Several Perceptions, the Somerset Maugham Award. She died on 16 February 1992 in London at the age of 51 from lung cancer.

Epstein, was nominated for the Stella Prize in Australia and awarded the Tempo Best Literary Fiction Prize in Indonesia, the English PEN Translates Award and the PEN/Heim Translation Fund Grant from PEN America. She is the author of the short-story collection Apple and Knife and editor of Deviant Disciples: Indonesian Women Poets, part of the Translating Feminisms series by Tilted Axis Press. Her essay ‘On the Complicated Questions Around Writing About Travel’ was selected for The Best American Travel Writing 2021. She holds a PhD from New York University and teaches Media and Film Studies at Macquarie University, Sydney.

Takashi Nagai was born on 3 february 1908 in Matsue, Japan. He was a Japanese Catholic physician specializing in radiology, an author, and a survivor of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. His subsequent life of prayer and service earned him the affectionate title ‘The saint of Nagasaki’. He died on 1 May 1951, aged 43, in Nagasaki from leukaemia.

Joseph Heller was born on 1 May 1923 in Brooklyn, New York. He served as a bombardier in the Second World War and then attended Joseph Heller Catch-22 first edition 1961New York University and Columbia University and then Oxford, the last on a Fullbright scholarship. He then taught for two years at Pennsylvania State University, before returning to New York, where he began a successful career in the advertising departments of Time, Look and McCall’s magazines. It was during this time that he had the idea for Catch-22. Working on the novel in spare moments and evenings at home, it took him eight years to complete and was first published in 1961. His second novel, Something Happened was published in 1974, Good As Gold in 1979 and Closing Time in 1994. He is also the author of the play We Bombed in New Haven. He died 12 December 1999 in at the age of 76 in East Hampton, New York.

Yukio Mishima was born on 14 January 1925 in Yotsuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan, into a samurai family and imbued with the code of complete のあと- Utage no Ato roman van Yukio Mishima uit 1970control over mind and body, and loyalty to the Emperor – the same code that produced the austerity and self-sacrifice of Zen. He wrote countless short stories and thirty-three plays, in some of which he acted. Several films have been made from his novels, including The Sound of Waves; Enjo, which was based on The Temple of the Golden Pavilion; and The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea. Among his other works are the novels Confessions of a Mask and Thirst For Love and the short-story collections Death in Midsummer and Acts of Worship. He comitted suicide by seppuku on 24 November 1970 in JGSDF Camp Ichigaya in Ichigaya, Japan at the age of 45 years.
